With the support of the Alabama TREASURE Forest Association’s (ATFA) vanity “I’d rather be in the woods!” license plate and generosity of our members, Alabama students studying forestry or wildlife sciences now have the opportunity to receive financial funding through ATFA’s new scholarship program.
ATFA will partner with Auburn University School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences to offer $1,000 in financial aid to two Alabama students pursing degrees in forestry or wildlife sciences. Additional partnership includes Lurleen B. Wallace Community College’s (LBWCC) Forest Technology program, where two students enrolled in the Forest Technology program will receive $500 in scholarship funds. Scholarship commencement is scheduled for Fall of 2019.
The Board of Directors felt that this was an outstanding opportunity to further the Association’s mission to promote, educate and improve. I know firsthand how impactful a scholarship can be. For some students, financial aid is the pivotal factor in whether they complete their degree or not. I look forward to watching our relationship grow with future natural resource professionals, particularly knowing that the Association is playing an active role in the professional development of those who will one day manage our state’s forests.

Scholarships are funded through private donations, the purchase of “I’d rather be in the woods!” vanity license plates, and ATFA’s silent auction which is held during the Alabama Landowners Conference.
