SUMMARY:Sumter County ATFA Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Our next Alabama Treasure Forest Association meeting is scheduled for Tuesday\,\nMay 21 at 7:00 p.m. at the ALFA Environmental Center in Livingston.\nThis meeting will be on “Trapping To Conserve And Protect Your Forest And Its\nResources”. This will not be a program on the “How To’s” of Trapping\, but rather on a subject\nthat should be near and dear to each of us. That is protecting our personal resources like timber\,\nfarm ponds and creeks from destructive critters such as Beaver\, Otter\, Muskrat\, Nutria\, Raccoon\nand Coyote. Yes\, Nutria are now in our nearby rivers and ponds. One was recently killed in\nEmelle. The animals in this list dig tunnels completely through our pond dams\, undercut the\nbanks of both streams and ponds\, dam creeks and overflows\, and flood and destroy timber.\nRaccoons are known to feast on Turkey eggs and Quail eggs. Coyotes oftentimes overkill our\ndeer and rabbit populations \nI have asked Professional Trappers\, Steve Phillips and his son\, Shaun\, from Tuscaloosa\,\nto come and present a program for us on how trapping can eliminate excess numbers of these\nvarmints in order to protect our streams\, farm and commercial ponds\, timber and our wildlife.\nSteve will describe the benefits for eliminating pest animals\, can make recommendations\nof local professionals who do this work\, show overhead pictures of successful encounters and\nanswer any questions that we will certainly have. \nSteve and his son Shaun are known around west Alabama as being professional and\nsuccessful trappers. They own West Alabama Wildlife Removal and co-own Down South\nTrappers. \nYou will not want to miss this meeting.
